Jena Elshami
HEALTH POLICY ADVISOR
Jena Elshami has a broad range of experience on Capitol Hill, where she interned with members in both chambers including Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA), and former Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee Louise Slaughter (D-NY). In each of these roles, Jena was responsible for a broad portfolio of work including many health-care-focused policy deliverables.
Jena also has experience working for health-oriented associations and non-profit organizations including the National Hispanic Medical Association and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. She has worked as both a programs and policy associate on projects and initiatives on topics ranging from expanding respite services for veteran caregivers, to creating bilingual doctor/patient toolkits, to organizing and hosting congressional briefings.
While in both the private and public sectors, Jena worked with various stakeholders including congressional committees, the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Health & Human Services, and partner health-care organizations.
At Federal Health Policy Strategies, Jena assists in advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, particularly with House and Senate Democrats, and performs a variety of research and analytical services for clients. She also tracks important developments and activities in Congress, the Administration, and congressional support agencies and authors the FHP Strategies’ weekly Health Care Watch.
Jena holds a Master’s of Public Policy and Leadership from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia.
